Health Benefits of Honey

“My son, eat thou honey, for it is good” the wise King Soloman had said, which is an indication that honey was known for its health benefits even in the past. Honey has been one of the nature’s greatest gift to mankind, which apart from its great sweet taste, has infinite number of health benefits if consumed in right quantity.

Honey has been extensively used for its medicinal properties in Ayurveda, Unani and other holistic medicines for more than 2500 years. In Europe and western world it was more sought after for its amazing taste, but was also known for its various health benefits. Maximum health advantage can be derived from honey when it is consumed in proper proportion with ingredients like ginger, lemon, cinnamon or milk.

Honey has been used not just as an alternative but as conventional medicine for thousands of years by Greeks, Arabs, Aryans and Egyptians. Honey has been the base of Unani medicine due to its healing properties. Some records show that honey was used for medicinal purposes by Ayurvedic practitioners for nearly 4000 years. Chinese people consider honey to be the most excellent neutral food with numerous medicinal properties which can contribute to healthy living. In addition, it has been used as an indispensable and valuation constituent of traditional Chinese Medicine.

Honey with Shilajit

Shilajit is rare medicinal tar like substance which contains 87 minerals apart from having naturally backed fulvic acid that helps in absorption in tissues. Raw honey when added to shilajit is known to increase health benefits of both the ingredients almost by three fold.

Ginger and Honey

Honey and Lemon

1 tsp honey, 1 tsp lemon juice added to a glass of lukewarm water is known to help in digestion, especially after heavy fatty meal. It also works a great deal in removing toxic waste and purifying blood. The same delicious juice when taken on empty stomach is known to reduce weight in obese people.

Honey with Vinegar

Honey when combined with cider vinegar is known to act as a preventive and curative medicine for several common illnesses by substituting as an antibiotic and antiseptic agent. If taken in required quantity over time, the mixture of honey and vinegar is known to cure premature ageing, heartburn, arthritis, high blood pressure and other ailments. Hippocrates is said to have used honey with vinegar to treat illnesses in 430BC.

Honey and Milk

A warm glass of milk with a teaspoon of honey before going to bed is a good remedy for restless sleep. When consumed early in the morning, the proteins and carbohydrates in milk and honey work as an energizing tonic providing stamina.
